About Our Scholarship Programs
The Edmund Cheney Foundation maintains five scholarship and grant tracks designed to support Virginia students and community members at every stage of their educational journey. Our programs reflect our founder’s deep conviction that access to quality education and vocational training is the single most powerful engine of civic progress and individual opportunity.
The eligibility quiz above provides a preliminary assessment of your fit with our current programs based on the criteria most commonly used by our Grants Committee during the initial screening phase. A strong match does not guarantee an award, and a partial match does not preclude consideration. We encourage all prospective applicants to review our detailed program descriptions on the Grants page and to contact our office with any questions about eligibility exceptions, special circumstances, or upcoming program expansions.
All scholarship decisions are made by the Foundation’s independent Grants Committee, which evaluates applications holistically based on academic merit, demonstrated financial need (where applicable), community engagement, and alignment with the foundation’s mission of strengthening central Virginia’s civic infrastructure. Committee members include university administrators, community leaders, and retired educators with expertise in the relevant academic disciplines. The foundation does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status.
